The Automatic Floor Sweeper Wasn’t the Problem. My Buying Process Was.

In 2022 I signed off on a $23,400 automatic floor sweeper. The machine did exactly what it was supposed to do, and our floors still were not clean. That contradiction took me two years and an uncomfortable meeting with my finance director to fully understand.

  6. Compare operating cost, not price. Include delivery, setup, electrical work, charger, training, consumables, spare parts and service response time. The lowest price is rarely the lowest total cost.

Eventually we reorganized our cleaning plan: the automatic floor sweeper handles dry row debris, a scrubber-dryer handles the oily and wet zones, and each machine has one named owner. Last year floor-care hours at that location dropped from 32 to about 13 per week. The savings did not come from a magic machine. They came from matching the machine to the problem.
